Here is a little bit more information on the four products we have on offer!

Saxenda®

  • Saxenda® is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with excess weight (BMI ≥27) or who have weight-related medical problems or obesity (BMI ≥30).
  • Your body naturally produces an appetite hormone known as glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1) that helps to regulate your hunger.
  • Saxenda® works like GLP-1 by regulating your appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight.
  • Saxenda® is a once-daily, self-injectable medicine that comes in a pre-filled pen.
  • We will teach you how to inject Saxenda® before you use it for the first time.
  • You will inject your dose under the skin (this is called a subcutaneous injection) in your stomach area (abdomen), upper leg (thigh), or upper arm as instructed by the pharmacist.
  • The starting dosage is 0.6 mg per day for 1 week.
  • Each pen will last for 6 days, once you are taking the 3-mg dose.
  • The most common side-effect is nausea.

Orlistat

  • Orlistat works by blocking chemicals (enzymes) in your gut which digest fat.
  • Nearly a third of the fat that you eat is blocked by orlistat. The undigested fat is not absorbed into your body and is passed out with your stools (faeces).
  • The normal dose is one capsule - 120 mg, three times a day, one with each meal.
  • It is recommended that you reduce your fat intake to 30% of your total calorie intake whilst taking orlistat.
  • We will work with you to make positive changes to your eating habits, physical activity and lifestyle.
  • Common side effects include:

-Fatty or oily poo

-Needing the toilet to poo urgently

-Pooing more frequently

-An oily discharge from your rectum

-Farting (flatulence)
